Inaugurated in February 1991, the Amparo Museum is one of the major projects which, within it's cultural program, the Amparo Foundation has created.

Located in the Historic Downtown area of the city of Puebla among the beautiful colonial buildings from the XVI and XVII centuries, the Museum houses a wide collection of Prehispanic, Colonial, Modern and Contemporary Mexican art.

Based on the firm belief that art is an aesthetic language through which humanity has endeavored to represent and understand the world, the Amparo Museum strives to put its visitors in contact with our historical origins.

Through one of the most important collections of Prehispanic art in Mexico, the visitor will acquire a general overview of the various cultures that inhabited Prehispanic Mexico from the Preclassic period (2500 B.C. to 300 A.D.) up through the Postclassic period (A.D. 900-1521).

The colonial area provides an encounter with the life of Postcontact society. The diverse religious and secular works presented reflect the aesthetic and symbolic complexity resulting from the contact between the American and European worlds.

The Museum's Contemporary and Modern art collections provide a general cultural view through works spanning from the newly founded Mexico up to the vanguard movements modern times.

As an active cultural center, the Museum includes various temporary exhibition areas where the national and international works are displayed. Thorough conferences, seminars, certificate courses, concerts and workshops addressed to diverse audiences, the Amparo Museum represents a moving force for the promotion of education, research and artistic creativity.
